BBC Learning English Drama

This section of BBC Learning English focuses on drama. The website is slightly different than the podcast program, which is what I’m introducing here. Recently, I’ve been using the Overcast podcast app for my phone, but you can also listen on the Overcast website.

The podcast has three recent series available. From most recent to oldest:

  • Frankenstein
  • The Race — a modern take on Jules Verne’s “Around the World in 80 Days”
  • Shakespeare Speaks — introduces phrases we owe to Shakespeare  such as “It’s all Greek to me” and “I’m in a pickle”

Each episode is between about 4-8 minutes and these three series continue for about 10 episodes. The pace is a good speed for language learners, and the stories switch between narration and skit.

Whether you choose to listen on the BBC website or using a podcast app, it’s another good source for listening to English (British English in this case) and the weekly +/- 5 minute episodes are a goal you can easily reach to do something extra in your portfolios each week.
