Type Online will help you get more typing practice. It’s a basic site with one annoying ad, but it’s free and you don’t have to sign up, so perhaps we shouldn’t complain.
The Safety First page is a great reminder to sit properly when you type and to take breaks, to avoid neck, back and wrist strain.
If you’re not clear on finger placement, the Typing Lessons page will help. There are 5 lessons, with many activities each.
There is also a page to help your speed and accuracy with a number pad, but I suppose most students don’t have one of those.
Next is Copy Practice. They’ll give you a short text and you’ll get your results for speed and accuracy. You can do this with both words and numbers. It’ll look like this:
You can take a Speed Test when you’re ready. Tried it this morning, and the text was from Shakespeare’s Henry V. Not an easy text to type, but I managed 70 wpm with 3 mistakes. Not bad for early in the morning 🙂 Most people consider 40 wpm an average typing speed. 70 is pretty good, but it should be achieved with no mistakes. I challenge students to beat my score! Remember to take a screenshot to prove it.
