Bilingual News (バイリンガルニュース）is a podcast in both English and Japanese. Here’s the link to the iTunes podcast page. Here’s the description:
“Casual and unedited colloquial language learning experience though a weekly review of relevant news topics.”
Two bilingual podcasters introduce first in one language then the other, several news topics, and then they comment about the topics. One speaker (Mami) stays primarily in Japanese and the other (Michael) primarily in English, although they both switch sometimes. The speaking speed is normal and as the description says, it’s colloquial and unedited, except when they’re reading the brief new summaries.
Each episode runs between 1 and 2 hours, but you can skip ahead to the next topic if you’re not interested in it. They talk about all kinds of things, and it’s interesting to hear their opinions and experiences. They get along well and it’s fun to hear them sometimes argue and debate things.
This podcast is not for language learners who are just beginning, but it’s a great way to get some listening practice for people who speak both Japanese and English to some extent. I also don’t think this podcast is appropriate for young kids because they sometimes swear and talk about topics that are better suited to older (high school maybe and definitely university age) students.
There’s an app, too. You can download it for free but you have to pay for each episode’s transcript.
