In the mood to write or tell a story? Try Scholastic’s Story Starters. To start, you’ll need to choose a theme (Adventure, Fantasy, Sci-Fi and a miscellaneous category called “Scrambler”). Then, type a first name (a pen name is fine!) and choose a level. It may look too easy for you, but try even the K-1 level and you’ll find some fun topics.

Next, click on the big SPIN wheel and you’ll get a writing/speaking prompt. For example:

If you don’t like any of the options, spin again. If you want to change just one portion, click “Spin this wheel”.

Click on “Next”, and you’ll be asked what kind of format you want to create, and whether or not you want to include a drawing. If you change your mind, you can change formats later.

Next, you’ll write your story (or letter, article, postcard). When you finish, you’ll have a choice of printing or downloading a PDF, which you can then embed or link to on your blog or portfolio.
