On the News in Levels site, you can read, listen to, and watch short news stories in 3 different levels of English. All three levels highlight “difficult” vocabulary. Levels 1 and 2 have an accompanying audio clip, and Level 3 has a video.

Below is an example of the 3 different levels with a recent news story from Japan.

You can also download additional learning materials (mp3s, exercises, magazines) from their shop, some of which are free. But even for the free items, you have to go through the process of using a shopping cart and submitting your name, e-mail. I tried it with some of the free materials (exercises), and I didn’t have to use my full name. The files arrived immediately in zip form in the site itself and also in an e-mail. The exercises were in PDF format and include answers.
