Here are two random name pickers from the classtools.net site, which is the home of Fakebook and Twister. We’ve used these in classes as an alternative to “rock-paper-scissors” and to decide presentation order. The sound effects make it a fun way to choose. These two tools can be used for things other than names, too. You could use them for vocabulary review, for instance, or to choose topics or roles for group projects.
Name Picker: Slot Machine
This one lets you remove names after they’ve come up, so it’s good for choosing presentation order. Click on “edit words” and add the names. Then click on “fruit machine”. The typewriter version is slower and kind of noisy, but it’s another way to choose, and may be good for guessing vocabulary words.
Random Name Picker: Roulette Wheel
Click on “edit” and add the names. Then click “submit” and you’re ready to spin the wheel. This one also lets you remove a name after each spin.
